Stay at home mom returning back to work needs help with resume? |
Here is my question . Does anybody have any suggestions on what to put on my resume for the last 6yrs. I've held a variety of experiences in the past from temp. agencies so I can basicly do anything,The last 6 yrs. I've been raising my daighter how do I put that in a resume. I'm not sure what to write on recent work experience. I've worked as a Lab Tech, Teller, CSR, Admin. assistant, Proofreader,Chilcare Provider and Cashier just so you get an Idea. It seems like it shouldn't be that hard.. Right? Please Help. I also had gaps in my work history but for different reasons. First of all, employers understand that there can be gaps in the work history for a variety of reasons. I would suggest that you go to Yahoo's Hot Jobs. They walk you right through a resume and when you're done with it, you can print it out to take with you on interviews. You don't say where you live. I would get on the internet and plug in a search that says "employment in (your city), and then your state. You should have plenty of leads there. But I found Hot Jobs on the yahoo site the best. It was simple and easy to do. I hope this helps. I feel for you because I am out of work again, so I am updating my resume and sending it out to employers......I can really empathize. I'm a 47 year old female, and these employers aren't supposed to discriminate, but I know it's done anyhow. Good luck to you ! If I were you I would create a resume that is more skills based and less chronological. Concentrate on what you are able to do and your past professional acheivements. You can start by putting an objective at the top of your resume and then a section called Competencies/ Skills, then Achievements and at the bottom put your work history. This way people who see your resume will be presented with what you can do first, not the fact that you have not worked in six years. Get a good book with sample resumes or you can find some online. Good luck! What you just wrote is a perfect resume. Just reformat it on separate lines, and ba-da-bing You already got it right.Just start with the latest and work backwards.Don't be afraid to explain the gaps as regards your maternal responsibilities BUT point out that now you are more free to dedicate yourself to a professional career and you are open to undergo further training. I would go for a more skills based resume than a chronological. On the application, I would put self-employeed domestic engineer. |
