Resume for a 16 year old?

I'm sixteen and applying online to American Apparel and on the application they ask for a resume in word or .PDF format... I have only had one other job, a camp counselor and I don't know how to go about making this resume... I haven't graduated high school yet (I'm a junior) and the only resume help websites I can find are for college grads... any help would be great!

Put on the one job you had. and also include your student status as a job. Put the company as your high school, and so on.

Your resume will be short and simple. But thats ok. You are 16 and applying at a retail store, it shouldnt be cluttered. Im not sure if they hire that young though, normally people who work at AA are a little older. Cant hurt to try though!

If you have microsoft office, go to

Search for resume template and edit it to fit your needs. Have you done any volunteer work? Work at church? Don't forget to list that, too. It's a good idea to get references when you leave a job. Have them type up something on letterhead and include this with your resume. Keep the original letter and make copies. Cover letters are also a good idea and after your interview, send a thank you note. It helps you stand out from the rest.

Ask your high school counselor or one of your teachers for some resume templates, I'm sure they'll be able to help you.

Include your one job, as well as any volunteer work or odd jobs you may have done. (babysitting, dog walking, etc.)

You can also include your interests (as they relate to the job you are applying for). For example, if you are applying for a sales job, you could write something about how you love talking to people, and/or teaching them about new products and services.

Remember, a good opening statement (commonly called an "Objective" on a resume) is a must! Tell them why you want the job, and why you're a good fit for their company.

Best of luck!
