How many years do I go back on my resume for work history? |
I am 45 years old with 23 years experience, however when I send out resumes I don't want to give away my age and the employer feels that I'm getting up there in age by looking at my resume. My resume is highly skilled. Please help. My best work history goes back to 1988 and everything will fit on 2 pages, do I write down the years. Employeers are very sensitive when they know you are hiding something and they will know your age anyway when you show up and have to provide identification. So be honest and look for an employeer that wants someone your age and with your experience. If you try to fool someone it will only be you that is left being the fool. It's best to keep a resume to one page, so put as much as you can there and summarize the rest at the bottom of the page Employers tend not to read resumes that exceed 2 pages. I would only put enough history there to meet the 2 page limit and that should be enough to grab their attention. If they would like more work history they will ask. Consider using a functional resume instead of a chronological one. 3-5 years is the accepted time. I'm like you, keep age off and talk about experience and skills. |
