I want to apply for a job. What are some resume tips?

I'm aiming for retail, or a popular bread shop... Newsagency type stores. Any tips?

Research your target jobs. Check Web-sites (if they have any) and get a hold of any catalogs or other marketing material they use. Visit the stores, buy something to see how their processes work. Also, look at any employment advertisements they have put out to get a solid idea of the skills they require.

When drafting a resume, tailor it to the specific job you are applying for. When I was job searching, I had about ten variations of my resume - each one focusing on the critical skills to a specific job type that I possessed.

Look at their marketing materials and see if there are any key words or skills that would be useful to mention. The marketing materials will also give you excellent talking points for an interview and give you a head start when you get the job.

Do an inventory list of your skills and present them in order of importance (to your potential employer) on your resume.
Think about things like your experience in dealing with customers, your ability to use the equipment the business uses, and any experience you have had in similar jobs.

Also, consider sending a cover letter with your resume. It will allow you to focus their attention on key points, and gives you the opportunity to present some additional information.

Good Luck!

I used this resume writing service in my area, this is the email address, (resume.help50@yahoo.com) you should try them, it only cost me $35.00 and I got a great job from this new resume, I never thought about the format that they use but the turn around time was less then 24 hrs. I would have to say it was the best service I have ever used and it was worth every dime. Also they let me pay through paypal.
